LuxLive hailed a success for contractor market

18 November 2011 11.30 GMT

(UK) - Inaugural event for contractor lighting industry completes lighting exhibition picture in UK, adding to The ARC Show's architectural lighting design focus.

The launch of LuxLive has been hailed a resounding success, attracting over 3,800 visitors to an event firmly focused on the contractor lighting market. Added to the architectural lighting design event, The ARC Show, taking place in London on February 29th and March 1st, LuxLive completes a healthy picture for all those interested in and working with light in the UK.

Taking place at Earls Court London on 9th and 10th November and organised by Lux magazine and the Lighting Industry Federation (LIF), the event saw 3,849 visitors, 90 exhibiting companies and 809 exhibitors in attendance over the two days. Providing the industry with an invaluable resource for sourcing new products, sharing ideas, networking and researching the latest developments in lighting, there was a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability, with Peter Denny, Thorn Lighting, describing it as ‘an event of its time.’

With numerous companies launching new products and services, a packed conference and seminar programme, offering practical advice on everything from design and financing through to legislation and sustainability, and a series of live debates among leading industry figures, LuxLive addressed the full spectrum of issues facing the UK’s lighting sector today.

Ray Molony, Event Director, comments: “We have been overwhelmed by how LuxLive has been received by the entire industry. We made a promise to the lighting industry to deliver the full supply chain to the event, including major end users, and I am pleased to say we kept that promise. We aimed to provide a unique event that will respond to the changing requirements of the industry and, once again, I am delighted that we were able to deliver for exhibitors and visitors alike. We are now looking forward to further developing the event for 2012, ensuring its continued relevance and success.”

Exhibitors at the 2011 event included GE, Philips, Osram, Thorn, F.W. Thorpe, Holophane, Toshiba and many more. Among the visitors were sustainability directors, energy managers and property chiefs from the UK’s major companies and organisations with large lighting estates, including: Tesco; Asda; B&Q; Marks & Spencer; Home Retail Group; Halfords; New Look; Toys R Us; Costa Coffee; Nando’s; General Motors Europe; Ford; BMW; Rolls Royce; BAA; Manchester Airport; NHS; Land Securities; British Land; BT; Credit Suisse; Deutsche Bank; EDF; Eon; BAe Systems; Hilton Worldwide; Kraft; Mars; Unilever; British Sugar; London Underground; Transport for London and Rentokil.

Rune Marki, president of the LIF and MD of Osram UK, commented: “A fantastic event. The LIF has been keen to develop such an event in recent years and are delighted with the success of its first edition. A big thank-you to our members and all the visitors for supporting the event and to the publishers of LUX magazine, who have been responsible for the organisation of it.”

The event was opened by Tom Delay, chief executive of the Carbon Trust, who said he was impressed by the dynamism of the lighting industry.

The evening of 9 November also saw the inaugural Lux Awards at a glamorous black tie ceremony at Chelsea Football Club’s Stamford Bridge. Recognising and rewarding innovation, creatively and energy efficiency in lighting, the evening also provided an excellent opportunity for the whole industry to come together for an informal evening of networking and celebration.

Ray Molony comments: “The evening was great fun and a huge success. Over 620 professionals from all aspects of the industry joined us to celebrate the great achievements and innovations made within lighting over the last 12 months. The Awards provide those within the industry a great occasion to shout about just some of the spectacular projects that are taking place in UK lighting today.”

With the UK's other dedicated lighting exhibition, The ARC Show, targeting high end retailers, architects and designers and supported by the IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers), the UK now has two events that target different sectors of the lighting industry. The ARC Show will take place in the heart of London's design community at The Business Design Centre in Islington on 29th February and March 1st 2012. The next LuxLive will take place at Earls Court on 7th and 8th November.
