30 November 2011 13.30 GMT

(Germany) Trade fair giant expands its portfolio in Russia and India by buying Interlight and establishing Light India.

Messe Frankfurt has acquired Inetrlight in Moscow and established a new show, Light India, in New Delhi as part of its internationalisation strategy.

The first Light India will take place from 5 to 8 October 2012. Messe Frankfurt expect to attract around 300 exhibitors and 50,000 visitors on 16,000 square metres of exhibition space. To be held every two years, the main product groups of Light India are lamps and luminaires.

Light India will be organised by the company’s Indian subsidiary, Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd., in cooperation with ELCOMA – Electric Lamp & Component Manufacturers Association of India and will be in continuation with international lighting exhibition held earlier at Pragati Maidan organised by ISLE – Indian Society of Lighting Engineers and ELCOMA.

“Thanks to Messe Frankfurt’s international connections, Light India participants will have a unique opportunity to update themselves with the latest products, technologies, trends and services from across the globe,” remarks Raj Manek, Managing Director, Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd. “In addition, with the support of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, the Central Power Works Department (CPWD) and the Council of Architecture, the Builders’ Association of India and the Indian Society of Lighting Engineers, Light India is the platform to interact with the bulk buying government and private agency decision makers.”

Wolfgang Marzin, President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt, commented on the Indian move: “Light India is another important step in our internationalisation strategy and it will strengthen our presence in one of the world’s most important growth regions. And we will continue to expand our portfolio of events in Asia under the Light+Building umbrella. We are very pleased that India’s most important association, ELCOMA, has agreed to join forces with us for Light India.”

Over the last sixteen years, OWP has built up Interlight Moscow into the market leader in Russia. The last event at the beginning of November attracted over 576 exhibitors and more than 26,236 visitors.

Of the Interlight acquisition, he said: “After having begun a working relationship with Interlight Moscow in 2010, we are now very pleased to be able to take this step and that OWP has accepted our offer. Russia is a key global market for the fair and exhibition sector, too. With great personal commitment, OWP has built up Interlight Russia into the nation’s biggest lighting fair. Hence, we have an excellent foundation for Interlight Moscow powered by Light+Building. At the same time, this reinforces the position of Messe Frankfurt as the global market leader in the field of building and lighting fairs.”
