14 June 2013 10.00 GMT

(Australia) - Organisers of Vivid Sydney, the annual festival of lights, music and ideas, reveals plans for 2013 event.

The program for this years Vivid Sydney festival has now been revealed, offering citizens and visitors a preview what to expect. The event, now in its fifth year, aims to transform the city’s nightscene into a colourful canvas of light, music and ideas from around the world.

As well as a rich conference program of talks on various aspects of the creative process, the festival will include musical performance from legendary acts like Kraftwork and Bobby Womack through to more contemporary bands like Empire of the Sun and Cloud Control.

The public face of the festival will, as ever, be the light festival.  The Sydney Opera House sails, treated with projections by Australian creative innovators The Spinifex Group, will form the centerpiece for the two-week event. This will be joined by a series of smaller installations along the harbour front and throughout the city.

According to Vivid Light Festival Director Anthony Bastic, artworks have been selected from around the world including Germany, England, Italy, France, USA, Korea, Malaysia and New Zealand. Australians feature from Sydney, Queensland, Victoria and regional NSW including Nowra, Wagga Wagga and Tuggerah.

“We are creating a night time playground of interactive light installations for everyone to enjoy, adults and children alike, with artists creating exciting and entertaining pieces such as the Enlightenment Piano which explores the relationship between light and sound,” says Bastic.
“There are moths drawn to light, a laser beam installation, fibre optic grass flourishing from a suspended garden bed, and you can even come along and interact with the Customs House façade with Move your Building.”
