euroLED 2011 hailed as success

11 July 2011 11.00 BST

(UK) - This year's euroLED show has been hailed a success by organisers Birmingham Science Park Aston.

The eighth annual euroLED show took place on 8th & 9th June at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. This year’s Conference and Exhibition was supported by three key premier sponsors Anglia Lighting, Arrow Electronics and Philips Lumileds, as well as Business Birmingham and Birmingham City Council who sponsored the Gala Dinner.
There were 100 exhibitors at this year’s show, including Eco Pac Power, Ocean Optics, Pro-Lite, Konica Minolta, YEG Opto, Farnell, Forge Europa, Holders Components, Sharp, Silica, ROAL electronics, and new to euroLED this year Harvard Engineering, who “looks forward to continue reinforcing their position as key players in the European LED driver market when returning next year.”

Mark van den Berg, Director of Marketing EMEA for The Philips Lumileds Lighting Company said, “euroLED gives us the opportunity to see many of our customers. This year saw our busiest stand yet providing us with the opportunity to speak about the new technologies and products we would be bringing to the lighting market.”

Michelle Cleaver, euroLED Events Manager, commented “euroLED 2011 saw 1550 delegates from over 30 countries including Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Asia and the USA. We truly believe that the quality of attendees is paramount for the success of euroLED as a leading event for the LED and Lighting industry.

In the Exhibition over 65% of our attendees were decision makers at Director or CEO level which provided our exhibitors with some excellent leads, it is exactly this type of quality that we want to build on for next year’s show.”

Martin Brown, Field Applications Manager from Anglia Lighting affirmed this by saying; “Along with many of our existing customers, we have also seen quite a few new potential ones and generated an impressive list of enquiries on the first day alone.”

“euroLED is the perfect cross-over between the lighting and electronics industries and I believe that it is an ideal fulcrum for the future of the Solid State Lighting industry in Europe” Said Paul Drosihn, Technology Development Manager-Lighting (EMEA), and UK for Arrow Electronics.
The conference was more successful than ever, with a outstanding number of high profile speakers from across the industry including Bob Pollock, Sr. VP of WW Sales, from Cree US who opened the conference and spoke on  ‘Adoption in General Illumination’. Tom Van den Bussche, Director Marketing EMEA, for Bridgelux, Inc gave a technology driven presentation explaining in detail the LED array approach and its benefits for retail lighting both technological and financial. Graham Scragg, Electrical Manager, on behalf of Amey UK and Birmingham City Council, presented a customer’s perspective on Birmingham’s energy and carbon agenda including their conversion ambitions for street lighting within the next five years.

This year euroLED also featured its first webinar presented by Thor Daniel Hjaltason, Entrepreneur, Lighting expert and Designer, Innovative IQ, who spoke on his latest project; the illumination of the She Shan Basilica Shanghai and challenges he faced with this iconic building.
Speaking about the conference and event, Ian Roberts from Farnell said euroLED gave “an opportunity to get our customers’ perspective on the types of products we provide and hear why they use our products. It’s not very often that you get to hear these views, as at many of these events you mostly hear from other manufacturers and companies further back along the supply chain, rather than the end-users themselves. This information is really valuable and euroLED provides a wider view of what we can do for our customers and at the same time provides us with a greater insight into their needs.”

The Gala Dinner, as always, was a success enjoyed by 210 attendees, Mark van den Berg, Director of Marketing EMEA for The Philips Lumileds Lighting Company said  that for them “The Gala Dinner is a great occasion offering the opportunity for some industry networking and excellent customer intimacy. For us it was one of the highlights.”

Provisional dates for euroLED 2012 have been announced as 13th & 14th June 2012, with the venue to be announced soon.  Interested parties are encourage to contact euroLED Events Manager Michelle Cleaver for further info.
