Speirs + Major appoint new managing director

15 May 2013 13.30 BST

(UK) - Andrew Howis becomes new MD amid a string of internal promotions at the design practice.

After an eight year career at Speirs + Major that has seen him work on some of the practice’s most high profile projects, including the St. Botolph Building in London, Howis will now be responsible for the day-to-day management of the company.

Clementine Rodgers has been appointed to the position of design associate after gaining a wide range of experience in both interior and exterior lighting design. As well as working on the IALD Radiance Award of Merit winning BBC Scotland Headquarters with Graven Images, Rodgers also led the lighting of Jamie Oliver's restaurant Barbecoa at One New Change.

The promotions come after a successful few months for Speirs + Major which saw the agency’s Burlington Arcade project win an IALD Award of Merit.

“We are lucky in that we have a great team from a broad range of backgrounds,” said Speirs + Major principals Mark Major and Keith Bradshaw. “It’s very exciting to work with such creative and technically knowledgeable designers.”

Other appointments include Benz Roos as senior designer who has worked at Speirs + Major since 2008, and most recently led the “In Lumine Tuo” project, an animated lighting installation in Utrecht.

Kerem Asfuroglu has also been promoted to project designer. Asfuroglu joined the practice in early 2011 and won the SLL Young Lighter of the Year Best Presentation award in 2010.
