BDP to light up culture crawl

12 September 2013 12.15 BST

(UK) - Maggie’s Culture Crawl, a 15-mile night-time walk through central London, to feature lighting installations by BDP.

The walk takes in some of the city’s most iconic buildings and is the first event of the London Open House weekend. BDP has been a regular supporter of the charity’s night hikes since 2008.

BDP has enhanced the routes of previous walks with lighting installations and this year will set up their work in three different locations.

In the top floor restaurant at The Gherkin (30 St Mary Axe) there will be lights which emulate a starry night under a glass dome and outside in the inner courtyard of St Bart’s Hospital the team will set up an installation reflecting the nature of the new Steven Holl Centre including a model of the project.

Finally, there will be an interactive lighting display at Roca Gallery in Imperial Wharf, continuing the balloon motive from a previous year’s installation at Horse Guard’s Parade.

The stunning balloon installation will be lit by blue blade fittings, provided by acdc, which will throw an intense narrow beam of blue light into a linear cloud of white balloons. The installation’s source of inspiration is water, emulating the fluid forms of the architecture. Messages, written by the walkers, will be tied to the balloons and collated at the Gherkin and released into the sky.

The walk will take place on September 20th 2013
