Hoffmeister rescues SILL

26 November 2013 10.30 GMT

(Germany) - Hoffmeister Leuchten takeover of business operations as part of asset deal with no job losses. SILL to continue trading as SILL Leuchten GmbH.

As of 1 December 2013, Hoffmeister Leuchten GmbH will take over all of the assets of Franz Sill GmbH Lichttechnische Spezialfabrik at the Berlin site required to continue business operations as part of an asset deal. The employment contracts of all SILL employees will be continued. Oliver Hoffmeister and Jens G. Hanfland will take over the management.

It is a remarkable turnaround for Hoffmeister who almost went out of business itself in 2009 when Philips announced they would wind down the company. Then Oliver Hoffmeister, great-grandson of the company’s founder, and Jens G. Hanfland bought the company from Philips and have been responsible for its rise ever since.

“We want to combine the established strengths of both companies in national and international business to create a strong unit,” said Hoffmeister. “This will be backed up by major investment in the development of new products, especially involving the use of state-of-the-art LED technologies.”

The SILL product portfolio will add a large number of high-quality, professional luminaires for specialised applications to the growing area of exterior lighting in the Hoffmeister range. Both SILL and Hoffmeister will benefit from the extensive expertise in customised products.
SILL will showcase a variety of its products and initial technological enhancements at Light + Building 2014 in Frankfurt.

“SILL is a strong brand with innovative solutions at a very high technical level. Therefore, the company is a strong partner for the solution of holistic lighting concepts. The highly committed and professionally trained employees are a key success factor,” said Jens G. Hanfland at the first information meeting in Berlin.

To ensure that customers benefit to the greatest extent from the competencies at SILL, all employees will be transferred to the new SILL Leuchten GmbH company. In international business in particular, the sales teams of both companies will cooperate together in close collaboration with the most important decision-makers on lighting tasks.

“The extremely positive development of the Hoffmeister company over the past four years was also part of the strategic purchase decision,” continued Oliver Hoffmeister. “Hoffmeister will benefit from the extensive vertical production integration at SILL and will be able to considerably extend its capacities, particularly in sheet metal processing.”
