Luxonic invests in luminaire production

23 July 2014 15.30 BST

(UK) - UK manufacturer completes £¾ million investment programme to expand its production facilities to cope with LED demand.

Luxonic has completed a ten-month programme to expand its production facilities in Basingstoke after an investment of £¾ million.

The expansion means that the company is better able to deal with the increase in demand for LED luminaires.

Consolidating all of Luxonic's manufacturing onto the Basingstoke site required an extensive re-organisation of the factory. Two mezzanine assembly areas have been installed increasing the production area by 30%.

Luxonic Production Director, Alan Ayres commented:  “The changes which we have put in place will give us a massive efficiency gain and more capacity to manufacture both LED and fluorescent luminaires”.

Luxonic have introduced a ‘Lean Manufacturing’ programme to streamline the manufacturing process, vastly improving efficiencies while motivating the assembly teams. The 'Lean Manufacturing' principle is to create production cells for each of the Luxonic product ranges where a team is esponsible for every aspect of that range’s production.

Virtually every Luxonic luminaire has been re-designed around LED technology and the company now has all the manufacturing facilities needed to produce the luminaires that it designs and develops.

Nick Tavaré, Luxonic’s Managing Director added: “This major investment puts us in an excellent position to satisfy this need for energy efficient LED lighting and grow the business in the future”.
