IALD to Chase the Dark across the globe on October 2nd

(Worldwide) - International Association of Lighting Designers to organise a series of worldwide guerilla lighting installations demonstrating the power of light in urban communities.

During last year's successful Chase the Dark event, lighting enthusiasts used light cubes to illuminate urban spaces in 18 cities around the world. This year's event will begin in Sydney, Australia, at 7:00 P.M. AEDT on Thursday, 2 October 2014. IALD Chase the Dark will follow the setting sun across the globe, illuminating city spaces in Melbourne, Australia; Taipei, Taiwan; Athens, Greece; Stockholm, Sweden; Milan, Italy; Barcelona, Spain; Dubai, UAE; London, UK; Manchester, UK; Atlanta, GA USA; Boston, MA USA; New York, NY USA; Philadelphia, PA USA; Toronto, ON Canada; Washington, DC USA; Montréal, QC Canada; Chicago, IL USA; Dallas, TX USA; St Louis, MO USA; Denver, CO USA; and finally Los Angeles, CA USA, San Francisco, CA USA and Seattle, WA USA.

This year's concept is to create a lampshade using one piece of paper and one light source in one hour. This unique activity, shared live by participants via social media, will push designers worldwide to be more creative than the previous city; the competition is on!

The membership of the IALD has grown to more than 1,000 members in the past year, with countries all over the globe getting involved. This annual global event that reminds architectural lighting designers of the worldwide community they have created. Chase the Dark allows IALD members to celebrate their cultural differences while uniting to bring quality, sustainable, functional lighting to everyone.
