James Wadsworth establishes new Lighting Design company

18 August 2009 11.00 BST

(UK) - Chairman of Light Projects Group creates Lightinc Limited in London for the national and international architectural and display lighting market.

“The application of light” is the philosophy of Lightinc Limited - a new lighting design and supply company established in June 2009 by one of the lighting industry’s leading creative lighting designers – James Wadsworth.

“Why now?” many people will ask.  In his typically straight-talking fashion Wadsworth states, “For me it was the right time to do this – I am convinced that there is an abundance of design opportunities and new business in the national and international architectural and display lighting market for a highly creative experienced new company.”

Lightinc will concentrate its efforts in three main areas:
• Projects: Independent lighting design and supply projects, including electrical installation, focusing, commissioning and maintenance of the lighting system.
• Products: The design and development of a range of lighting products. Wadsworth intends to develop these fittings to suit the requirements of the lighting specification market, along with products designed for specific lighting applications.
• Lectures: A series of regular lighting educational lectures, involving senior figures from the lighting industry speaking in depth on particular light sources, design techniques and applications.

Lightinc is located adjacent to Tower Bridge close to the centre of London, in its exciting new studio overlooking the river Thames, comprising office / showroom/ presentation suite and product development workshop.

Following a theatrical lighting education Wadsworth started his career in creative architectural and display lighting design in 1978, as a trainee lighting designer working with Tony Corbett at Light Ltd, a division of Theatre Projects. In 1983 Wadsworth joined the Lighting Workshop as a lighting designer working with Maurice Brill. He returned to Light Projects Ltd [formally Light Ltd] in 1985 and in 1987 was responsible for the purchase of the company from Theatre Projects.

Throughout his career he has been actively involved in the lighting design of many significant, high-profile projects including: The ‘Star Trek’ Exhibition, Science Museum, London; Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford; The National Trust’s East Riddlesden Hall and Drakes Drum, Buckland Abbey; Harrods; Harvey Nichols; Selfridges; The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, York; Windsor Castle and the Mappa Mundi at Hereford Cathedral.

Lightinc’s highly focused team includes Michael Gallagher, who Wadsworth has known for over 30 years. Gallagher’s extensive lighting product design experience, technical knowledge and support provides considerable weight to Lightinc’s product design services.

Mark Beecroft, who trained in spatial design, is Lightinc’s creative IT specialist – and trainee lighting designer. “This is an opportunity for me to fulfill my creative aims and ambitions and to participate in challenging and imaginative lighting projects along with the design of unique range of lighting fittings. I will also take this opportunity to offer educational services to lighting consultants, architects, engineers, interior designers and students.”

Wadsworth is now Chairman of the Light Projects Group, leaving the day- to-day management of the company in the capable hands of the existing directors, enabling him to concentrate on the establishment and development of Lightinc Limited.
