LIF launch 2009/10 Energy Efficiency Lighting Award Scheme

15 October 2009 12.00 BST

(UK) - Following the successful pilot of its Energy Management and Innovation in Lighting Awards Scheme (EMILAS) during 2008/09, the Lighting Industry Federation (LIF) now launched the full scheme for 2009/10.

The EMILAS Lighting Award Scheme encourages the refurbishment of existing lighting installations by recognising - and awarding - those lighting schemes showing proven energy savings, with a minimum level of 20% improvement over the schemes being replaced.

Projects must also demonstrate they comply with current standards for lighting scheme design and installation, show flexibility of usage, and demonstrate innovative use of lighting.
The scheme is designed with three objective in mind: to promote installation of energy efficient lighting schemes and speed up investment in the refurbishment of existing lighting installations; help government (and its agencies) achieve overall UK Carbon (CO2) reduction targets; and promote importance of good lighting in design and to bring innovative products to market using best practise in energy efficiency.
The 2009/10 Awards are open to everyone within the lighting industry and the associated supply chain e.g. manufacturers, lighting designers, architects, installation contractors  They will be presented in Autumn 2010 allowing a full year for the cycle of entry and judging. Details of how to enter can be found online.
