Everlight launch carbon footprint declaration for LED products

09 February 2011 10.00 GMT

(Taiwan) – LED manufacturer Everlight Electronics has signed up for the Carbon Footprint Declaration in a bid to heighten their eco credentials.

The declaration was launched in late 2010 and is independently verified by SGS, an international certificate organization that follows the PAS 2050:2008 standard verification from UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service).

PAS 2050:2008 is one of the foundations for forthcoming ISO standard (ISO14067-1/-2) that assesses the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of goods and services. Everlight took this standard and calculated the possible Carbon Dioxide Emission of the LED product including the original materials, production process and testing.
In a company statement, Everlight explained their move as a vital step towards comparing the ecologocial credentials of different products across the industry: “Everlight has adopted this international third party verification to create a reliable Carbon Footprint Declaration of LED products for our customers, and we would like to take the lead and encourage all of the LED industry to work harder in protecting the environment for our next generation.”
