Quatro Tower, Dubai

On the 20th May in Dubai Marina, Abyaar Real Estate Development opened its new Venti Quattro Tower, which is being managed as residential and hotel apartments by Radisson SAS.

A&O Technology’s immediate client was mamemo productions (, a Dubai-based creative and events agency specialising in major events. The creative concept for the show was the brainchild of mamemo productions’ Managing & Creative Director Sam Katiela, whilst responsibility for engaging and coordinating the contractors lay with Stefan Wieland,  mamemo productions’ Production Manager in Dubai. The lighting design and operation of the 50 Falcon Beam 7kW xenon searchlights used for the project was the work of Lars Wulf, who was commissioned by mamemo productions. Never before in the Middle East have so many 7000W searchlights been deployed for the illumination of a single building. The results were more than impressive.

The searchlights were used primarily to create an up-light curtain immediately in front of the building. The systems arranged in two rows at the foot of the façade were oriented in such a way that through pan and tilt movements they were able to illuminate either the surrounding area or the façade all the way up to the roof with powerful beams of light. During the phenomenal show that followed, the Falcon Beam searchlights generated dynamic and spectacular colour effects on the façade. The opening show was supported by pyrotechnics from Lunat X, whereby the play of both the lights and the flame systems in use was synchronised to music specially arranged for the event, the result being an evocative and dramatic architectural illumination full of vibrant energy.

The complete ten-minute show including components such  as the flame systems, searchlights and pyrotechnics, were pre-programmed in 3D and controlled by a common time code signal. The choreography with its progressive build-up and release of tension filled the invited guests with enthusiasm. As the crowds melted away at the end of the show, the xenon searchlights manufactured by alpha one in Germany were used to bring out the special features of the building’s architecture once again and provide static illumination.
