Scanner Room

August / September 2014

Scanner Room, an installation by Karolina Hałatek at the Centre of Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Poland, engulfs the space completely, creating an environment constructed by, and filled with, light.

The most important element of the installation is a constant, monochrome and minimalist flow of light that materialises and diffuses.
Scanning is often used to represent images or to read encoded, written messages. Therefore, overexposure to light may be regarded in a negative way. But in Scanner Room, the lighting’s intensity develops with time and may get you close to meditation, but it can also take the form of a momentary flash of light, a transient feeling or image.
